In 1997, we
began researching what managers could do to help their
employees be more productive. Through face-to-face
meetings, paper-pencil surveys and email responses, we’ve
talked with nearly 3,000 employees, asking each to
finish the statement, “I wish my manager would just…” |
 |
As we began to share our findings with managers, we heard
the plea for equal time and thus the concept of our
handbook where both sides of the manager-employee
relationship are explored. At this point, we’ve talked
with nearly 500 managers and have had them finish the
statement, “I wish my employees would just…”
I Wish You Would Just… is great way to:
-
Establish trusting, two-way communication
between managers and employees.
-
Encourage and equip both managers and employees
with ideas of how to better relate to each
other.
-
Promote open and honest discussion about how
managers and employees can help each other be
more successful.
It’s our wish
that our research can help employees and
managers unleash their human potential and be
more content, productive and successful. If
you are looking for ways you can incorporate the
I Wish You Would Just... concept in
your organization, consider the following:
|
1. |
Share a copy
of the I Wish You Would Just book with each
employee and manager. Ask them to read it and highlight
areas that relate to issues that are relevant to their
manager-employee relationship. Suggest that they set time
aside to have an open and honest discussion on how they
can help each other be more successful. |
